Wingshooting Lessons
For the avid wing shooter, few things compare with the satisfaction of a successful day in the field, and few things can match the frustration of missing a bird that should have been an easy shot. Although anyone can have an ‘off day’, but when the problem occurs again and again, it is time to consider a lesson with us at Sandy Oaks Ranch.
Clients are tutored utilizing wingshooting (sporting clay) techniques, techniques that quickly and dramatically improves shooting skills. This method is based upon several fundamental principles – correct shooter posture/stance, proper gun mounting (greatly assisted by a gun that fits the shooter) and the ability to concentrate on the target.
While Sandy Oaks Ranch instruction program has been designed to enhance the shooting skills of upland bird and waterfowl hunters, the basic principles are identical to those required to effectively shoot sporting clays, deemed the fastest growing shooting sport in this country.
GUN FITTING
A gun that fits the shooter properly is a key element in wingshooting. A gun that fits and is properly mounted will shoot precisely where the shooter is looking.
A popular misconception among shooters is that for a gun to fit properly it must be entirely custom made. Actually any shotgun can be altered to fit a specific shooter. Fitting a gun really means alteration of the gun stock.
Shooters are often astounded by visual (before and after) proof of where their gun is shooting. Firing several shells at our patterning board is often an enlightening experience.

Lessons are offered at Sandy Oaks Ranch located 1480 IH 35 S Devine , Texas 78016. Sandy Oaks Ranch offers an assortment of lesson packages designed to accommodate beginners and progressing to accomplished shooters (who may need some assistance with a particularly troubling shot).

Bird hunters and sporting clays enthusiasts can benefit from an hourly, half or full-day instruction session(s) at our shooting facility at Sandy Oaks Ranch.

Our shooting facilities have been designed to provide the best in practice and shooting activities. It also serves as an additional event space with both a covered outdoor pavilion and indoor climate controlled facility.
The Shooting Pavilion is a 7,700 square foot outdoor covered pavilion which include: 6’ x 15’ - 3 tap keg serving bar, four televisions and public announcement system. The indoor facilities include: 225 square foot climate control room and restrooms.
We have four Texas style cabins available to accommodate you and your overnight guest for your weekend destination or overnight stay. Each cabin has a private bathroom and all are adjacent to the Live Oak Pavilion.
Our Texas style cabins we can accommodate 12 to 16 overnight guests. There are four cabins, each with a private bathroom and all are adjacent to The Lodge:
Cabin 1 (The Live Oak Room) features four twin beds.
Cabin 2 (The Spanish Oak Room) features two queen size beds.
Cabin 3 (The Post Oak Room) features four twin beds.
Cabin 4 (The Red Oak Room) features two queen size beds.
POLICY
Upon booking, a 50% deposit is required. to book your hunt/event. All deposits/payments are nonrefundable. No refunds on cancellations.
A signed liability release form is required upon arrival to Sandy Oaks Ranch. We accept cash, cashier's checks, company checks, personal checks & credit cards. We follow all state and federal hunting and fishing regulations. Bring hunting or fishing license.
Quail hunters bring blaze orange vest and hat.
Let us know in advance if you wish to bring/use your own dogs.
We offer quail hunting guide services & pigeon shoots to other ranches & hunting operations. We also host quail hunts & pigeon shoots.
